There is a popular saying in life - "use it or lose it!" This certainly applies when it comes to stretching.
Everybody reaches a physical barrier at some point in their lives. Whether it be walking, running, bending over or doing the splits - there are some things that are just unattainable. What many people often forget is that stretching is a preventative and a solution for most of these problems.
Unfortunately stretching is a fundamental in life that is often brushed aside, forgotten about or poorly executed. Whether you're a builder, a computer technician, an invalid or a higher training athlete - stretching is a must for all.
Here are some of the benefits of stretching:
1. Stretching increases flexibility. Flexible muscles can improve your daily performance. Tasks such as lifting packages, bending to tie your shoes or hurrying to catch a bus become easier and less tiring.
2. Stretching improves range of motion of your joints. Good range of motion keeps you in better balance, which will help keep you mobile and less prone to falls - and the related injuries - especially as you age.
3. Stretching improves circulation. Stretching increases blood flow to your muscles. Improved circulation can speed recovery after muscle injuries.
4. Stretching can relieve stress. Stretching relaxes the tense muscles that often accompany stress.
It's not enough to simply stretch a particular muscle for one or two seconds, once a week. In order to see any results from stretching, it must be done properly and regularly. When stretching, you should hold the position for 10 - 30 seconds. Holding it for less than 10 seconds will not provide you with the flexibility you're after.
Effective stretching doesn't require an expensive machine, nor does it require the presence of a gym instructor. All you need is a flexibility enhancer, made from super strong webbing with two Velcro-style hooks. By opting for this natural, body-friendly alternative, you have complete control over the amount of stretch you receive.
Once you get going, you'll be amazed at how quickly you can get flexible and just how rewarding stretching can be for your body.
