There is a popular saying in life - "use it or lose it!" This certainly applies when it comes to stretching.

It's not enough to simply stretch a particular muscle for one or two seconds, once a week. In order to see any results from stretching, it must be done properly and regularly. When stretching, you should hold the position for 10 - 30 seconds. Holding it for less than 10 seconds will not provide you with the flexibility you're after.
